BIOGRAPHY
Pauline Köhlen (b.1999) is a visual artist and photographer based in Barcelona. She studied Fine Arts and Photography at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where she developed a performative and research-based approach to the medium.
Her work explores how the self is shaped through spatial experience. Using the photographic medium as a tool for research, she engages with landscape through performative gestures, often placing her own body in the frame to investigate the sense of space, scale and self.
Light plays a central role in her practice, both a technical necessity and a metaphor for presence and absence. Her images become traces of encounter, between body and space, interior and exterior.
Pauline has exhibited her work, in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Argentina and participated in international programs such as Unseen Amsterdam, Futures, and Rotterdam Photo and has absolved a residency at R.A.R.O. Buenos Aires.
